CUB
ALOHA! IT’S ME JAKE-CUB
In 2006 i uploaded some demo tracks to a site called Sellaband.com. The goal of the site is to direct people there to help you raise 50,000 dollars. I had no idea things would take off like they did. In 4 months 686 AMAZING people helped me fund my first professional album. This means 686 people gave me anywhere from 10 to 2000 dollars!! Their generosity still blows my mind and i am forever grateful to these Believers.
I was the second band/artist on the site to hit the 50K and the first American artists as well. More and more quality bands are reaching the goal on sellaband and putting out albums. It’s great to be a part of such an active concept.
I got to record my album with amazing producers in legit studios, mixed and Master by pros from Universal and MTV, and now the name of the game for me is promoting my music to the masses. Since recording my debut album I’ve seen major stages and played for amazing crowds. I am still on the rise and have since furthered my musical goals.

CUBWORLD REVIEWS
“The elegance of Cubworld. Deceptively simple, this music has a lullaby quality that hides layers of sophistication. Kick back and let yourself be soothed by the crooning of Cubworld. These songs are an oasis of peace in our frenetic existence…” Gilles Martin, French producer/engineer and A&R
“A great raw voice that has a beautiful frailty. He has the sort of voice that makes one listen to the words, which are worth listening to. I do enjoy the freshness and ‘unmanicured’ approach to song construction and musical performances. Very emotive and telling…” Haydn Bendall, chief engineer at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios
“I really like the songs and the guys’ voice. I’m a huge Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and Dave Matthews Band fan, and I love the little crack in his voice…lyrics are nice as well, really nice tunes…” Grammy Winning Producer Bob Brockmann, a.k.a. Bassy Bob
WHERE DID THE NAME CUBWORLD COME FROM?
So Cub was a nick name a really good friend of mine came up with because unlike most of my Polynesian cousins and friends i was small (and fuzzy haha). So instead of being a “bear” i was a “cub”. I thought it was cool how Cub played on my first name too, Jacob or Jake-CUB, both being read the same. So the nickname stuck with me. I think it was durring college when i started writting Cubworld. It started as a way to sign my art (I got my Bachelors in Fine Arts) as a way of expressing the “world” that i see and create in my art. I actually wanted my artist name to be Cub but the name was already taken so I went with Cubworld.
Two of the most commonly miss pronounced ways people have been CLUBWORLD & CUPWORLD haha.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I’m a South Pacific kid. Born in Samoa, grew up in Tonga and Hawaii. I call Hawaii my home because it’s where i went to high school, college, got married and started my family. I’m half Tongan and Half Orem, Utah :).
WHERE DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL?
Tonga Side School/Laie Elementary, Liahona High School/Kahuku High School, and Brigham Young University of Hawaii.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING MUSIC?
Aside from High School and College Groups and Choirs I’ve been doing Cubworld music since late 2006. It all really started with Sellaband.com and in the City of Amsterdam where i decided to pursue music as more then just a passion.
WHERE ARE SOME PLACES YOU’VE PERFORMED?
Hawaii | California | Nevada | Utah | New Mexico | New York City | Maryland | Japan | Korea | London | Amsterdam | more coming…
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE VENUE?
The Paradiso in Amsterdam. I’ve performed there 3 times! Such a blessing. Aside from the sound being great freaken the whos who has played on this stage! The greats!! U2, Bob marley, Coldplay, Oasis, Nirvana, the Rolling stones, Damien Rice, to all your R&B and Hip Hop hero’s. This is why i feel very humbled to even have stepped on that stage 3 times.
HOW WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND? STYLE/GENRE
I’d say my music is a mix between Jack Johnson and Coldplay with sometimes a heavier Island reggae feel. When i say “Island feel” i don’t mean Luau music (although i do enjoy and wish I could play luau music) so much as i mean Reggae/Surf feel. I love Bob Marley and Sublime and i feel that plays in my sound as well. Best way to get a glimpse at my versatility is by checking out my youtube channel. I have about 100 videos with over 600,000 views. Check out Originals and Covers. Dont forget to subscribe to stay updated when i upload new videos. I try to take time out for people that leave me comments. It’s the least i can do to show my appreciation for people taking time out to watch and listen to me. So don’t be shy and say hello/Aloha :)
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL GOALS?
I’d like to keep putting out music. I am always writing and coming up with new hooks and songs. I’d like to make recording a bigger part of what I do and get more into the production of my songs. I’d like to get to a point where it’s effortless to produce an acoustic song i come up with and share a new song a month with you. I’ve also been giving some thought to doing stock music and doing more projects for publishers to push intrumentals and other projects for film.
With the average success rate of top 40 musicians hitting the music scene hard with a team/lable being 10 years, I’ve got a lot of ground to cover and at least 90 more songs to come up with before I catch a break :). Fingers crossed and working away!
HOW CAN PEOPLE STAY UPDATED WITH YOUR PROJECTS?
Right here on my website Blog, Facebook, Youtube, and I occasionally update my Twitter.
ANY LAST WORDS?
Do you feel lucky? We’ll do ya? haha. Nah just playing…as always ALOOOOOOHA!!
